Chiropractic Care

WHAT ARE CHIROPRACTIC SCIENCES?

A system of therapy that utilizes the recuperative powers of the body and the relationship between the musculoskeletal structures and the functions of the body, particularly of the spinal column and the nervous system, in the restoration and maintenance of health.

It features a method of treatment that manipulates body structures (especially the spine) to relieve low back pain or even headache or high blood pressure.

ULTRASOUND:

Ultrasound machines are a treatment modality used by doctors that utilize high or low frequency sound waves. These sound waves are transmitted to the surrounding tissue and vasculature. They penetrate the muscles to cause deep tissue/muscle warming. This promotes tissue relaxation and therefore is useful in treating muscle tightness and spasms. The warming effect of the sound waves also cause vessel vasodilatation and increase circulation to the area that assists in healing. The doctor can also adjust the frequency on the machine to use waves that will decrease inflammation.

POST ISOMETRIC RELAXATION :

PIR (Post-Isometric relaxation) is a technique that can be substituted for standard stretching when a person is in extreme pain. It can often reduce a muscle spasm that is responsible for spinal pain, and eliminate pain points in other areas of the body. It is very effective for a patient who can hardly tolerate any movement at all.

MYOFACIAL RELEASE TECHNIQUE :

Myofascial Release is a very effective hands-on technique that provides sustained pressure into myofascial restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. The theory of Myofascial Release requires an understanding of the fascial system (or connective tissue). The fascia is a specialized system of the body that has an appearance similar to a spider's web or a sweater.

The use of Myofascial Release allows us to look at each patient as a unique individual. Our one-on-one therapy sessions are hands-on treatments during which our therapists use a multitude of Myofascial Release techniques and movement therapy. We promote independence through education in proper body mechanics and movement, through the enhancement of strength, flexibility, and postural and movement awareness.

ELECTRICAL STIMULATION:

Electrical stimulation uses an electrical current to cause a single muscle or a group of muscles to contract. By placing electrodes on the skin in various locations the doctor can recruit the appropriate muscle fibers. Contracting the muscle via electrical stimulation helps strengthen the affected muscle. The doctor can change the current setting to allow for a forceful or gentle muscle contraction. Along with increasing muscle strength, the contraction of the muscle also promotes blood supply to the area that assists in healing.
